Getting deliveries into central Madrid
Narrow streets, pedestrianised blocks and buildings without lifts make the centre its own delivery problem. What to tell your courier.

Central Madrid is dense, old and substantially pedestrianised. A delivery that would be routine in Chamartín can be genuinely awkward in Malasaña, and the difference is rarely the distance.
Vehicle access is the first constraint
Large parts of Centro — and neighbourhoods within it like Malasaña, Chueca and Lavapiés — have restricted or pedestrianised streets. Loading is often limited to certain hours, and a van may simply not be able to stop near the door.
In practice this means bike and scooter couriers frequently reach central addresses faster than a vehicle can, and for small items they are usually the better choice. For anything heavy or bulky going into the centre, ask the provider directly how they intend to reach the address.
Buildings are the second
Much of the housing stock is pre-lift. A portero may cover only part of the day. Street doors are often locked, and buzzer panels are not always labelled the way the address suggests.
Give the courier what a friend would need:
- the door code, or who to buzz and what the panel actually says
- the floor, and whether there is a lift
- the hours someone will genuinely be there
- a phone number that will be answered during the delivery window
Time windows matter more here
Loading restrictions, school runs and the simple density of the streets mean mid-morning and late afternoon are slower. If you have any flexibility about when the delivery happens, you will usually get a better outcome outside those windows.
For businesses receiving regularly
If deliveries arrive at your premises most days, it is worth agreeing a standing arrangement — a consistent window, a named person to receive, and one set of access instructions the provider keeps on file. Business delivery providers work this way as a matter of course.
Find couriers covering the centre, browse delivery by area, or send us the details and we will route it to providers who cover that address.
